About This Resource
Texas Tech University System (TTUS) is comprised of four separate universities in Texas. Both Texas Tech University in Lubbock and Angelo State University in San Angelo make up the system’s two academic universities, while the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centers in Lubbock and El Paso are the two healthcare universities. When TCP engaged with TTUS, the system served more than 49,000 students and employed approximately 20,000 faculty, staff and students.
In such a large, diverse system, a multitude of time and attendance solutions were employed. Jeff Deitiker, Assistant Managing Director of Payroll & Tax Services observed the variety and told us, “We used Banner Web Time Entry along with some TimeClock Plus, other time clock devices, and some ‘home grown’ time clock systems. But what we needed was one campus-wide time keeping system.”
Because there were so many timekeeping methods an additional process was needed to assimilate all the varying data captured into Banner for payroll. “We had a gateway process where the hours were loaded into the payroll system through the gateway via spreadsheets,” states Deitiker. But this gateway system was far from ideal, and the spreadsheet-to-Banner system complicated efforts to provide accurate reporting.
